Abstract
© 2006 by Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. The intestinal tract is the site of a number of inflammatory disorders that vary considerably in underlying pathogenesis, pattern of presentation, and severity. This chapter summarizes the more important inflammatory processes involving the small bowel and colon, emphasizing the underlying physiologic dysfunction associated with each, and the means by which physiologic function may be restored or improved through surgical intervention.
