Abstract
© Springer International Publishing AG 2018. We introduce in this work a new method of retrieving the reference state of the breast in a stress-free configuration and estimating at the same time the elasticity of the breast tissues by combining MRI and surface imaging data and using finite element analysis. This reference state of the breast is particularly useful in predicting the cosmetic outcome and the healing process of breast cancer surgery, and breast conserving therapy in particular.
