Abstract

Several approaches for identification of vascular disease and cardiac ischemia show promise for early and accurate diagnosis in women. Some of these methods, such as tests to detect endothelial dysfunction and echocardiographically measured intimal-medial thickness, do not rely solely on the demonstration of fixed obstruction of epicardial arteries with coronary angiography, but rather, focus on the recognition of early vascular injury. Other methods permit better imaging of left-ventricular (LV) wall motion using a variety of stressors. Still other techniques have the potential to directly determine myocardial high-energy phosphate metabolism.
