Description

In 2017 the Himmelfarb Health Sciences Library partnered with The George Washington University School of Nursing to create a permanent digital archive for their Doctor of Nursing Practice project collection in our instance of Digital Commons. DNP projects are a unique type of content because they provide important research about nursing practices, but often go unpublished elsewhere. The GW DNP collection now contains over 120 items that have been downloaded over 95,000 times and therefore we were eager to explore additional avenues for disseminating this content beyond our IR and its subsequent indexing platforms. In 2018 our library migrated to Ex Libris's Alma and its discovery service Primo which allows content from OAI-PMH compliant archives to be loaded to Primo for discovery and therefore we were hopeful that this integration might provide an effective avenue for including DNP projects from our IR collection in our library catalog. A feed was established between the IR and Primo, but several problems were identified and therefore the feed was removed. Consequently, we created a separate workflow that allowed us to integrate specific content from our IR into our library catalog. This presentation focuses on the objectives of this systems integration project, the workflow that we created, project benefits and limitations, and goals going forward.
