Description
After the government collapsed in Afghanistan in 2021, scenes of desperation unfolded as people tried to escape the country to save their lives. Some clung to departing airplanes, and tragically many fell, and these moments were captured on the news and television, deeply affecting people around the world. Watching this left a strong emotional impact on me. I felt fear, heartbreak, and helplessness seeing people risk everything in a final attempt to survive. It was not just a news story to me, it felt deeply human and overwhelming. The panic and pain in those moments stayed with me even after I stopped watching.
Because of this, I decided to recreate this moment through my work by focusing on the emotions behind it, including fear, sadness, and desperation. I wanted to show not just what happened, but how it felt for those experiencing it.
