Description
Temple University Libraries' scholarly repository, TUScholarShare, began in 2020 and is a relatively young scholarly repository with growth potential in many subject areas. Travis Nace, the nursing liaison librarian, noticed an area for potential growth: nursing-produced posters were noticeably absent from the repository. No specific community or sub-community (collections) were focused on nursing research and scholarly publications despite much being produced at Temple University.
In the spring of 2022 discussion began to create a nursing specific community. Talks were scheduled with Temple University Hospital nurse educators to obtain posters presented between 2015 and 2020. These were seen as a good first content batch to pursue.
Travis Nace worked with a part time librarian to send out an email to prior residency cohorts to ask for permission to upload posters. The first email was sent in January 2023 and the second in February 2023. Training was completed in May 2023 to upload these posters and the TUH Nursing EBP Conference posters and to provide metadata. The posters were cataloged according to Dublin Core schema. As of September 1, 2023, there are now six nursing posters in the repository with the highest viewed over one hundred views.
A new community was created because of these actions "Nursing Research" is now an official sub-community within Faculty/Research Works and Evidence Based Practice Conference is a collection within that sub-community.
These two communities will continue to grow as new scholarship is produced and as annual nursing conferences are held.
